Boston Bound

World series fever around Boston Common

Boston, the kinda place you could see yourself living, and like NY, you know you would be stupid to ever think you could afford to live there. Pity all the world series games were played in St Louis while we were there, and when we left they played the final game at Fenway Park and of course the Red Sox won. Oh and the sass of Harvard students - those folks are damn proud to be there,

Meig Point Beach

Mystic Cemetary. What a place to spend your final days.

Giant seagull waiting for a chippy and some clam chowder

Driving out of NYC was one of the scarier moments of the trip, but such a treat to go through some gorgeous seaside towns. Definately promotes road trippin rather than going through stuffy airports. Some black and white shots survived!! Our destination for the first day was to get to New Haven, home of Yale University. Its amazing to see when you go out to a local bar or pizza place students in their Yale sweaters proudly displaying their brains and daddy's cheque book while they swish back their hair. I probably would be obnoxious too if I got accepted to such a fancy pants school.
We ate gigiantic pizzas at one of New Haven's famous apizza joints - Sali's - which is constantly at war for the original and the best witha  place opened prior, owned by Sali's uncle. Even better was the running baseball world series score updates in Jersey accents.
Next - Boston!

Brooklyn, Queens, and the Queens of Brooklyn

That first glimpse of the sexiest city on earth
On our corner of Driggs Ave.

Half the reason for heading back to Brooklyn - meeting this tiny cake Genius at Momofuku Milk Bar

Right in the middle of Chelsea, an artist takes over a Servo.

Chicken and mac n cheese at Pies and Thighs. Words cannot describe the deliciousness.

Mother flippin Shake Shack. No burger will ever come close to the perfectness.

Busy Brooklyn from above.

Would you ride a wooden roller coaster from the 20's?

Witnessing the NY Giants ending their losing streak against the Minnesota Vikings. Pure American pride on show.

So the blog hiatus has ended! got the rest of my films developed from the trip and a few extras and lets just say a heap of photos didn't work out. So for New York you are stuck with my phone photos.
Man I ruddy love New York. Walking around Williamsburg almost makes you angry how cool it is and how practically impossible it is to get a Visa to stay any longer than 90 days. We ate delicious things, got to meet up with some friends and see come CMJ shows and Questlove from The Roots play his Thursday night Brooklyn Bowl show Bowl Train. I got shaky knees getting to meet and assemble vanillary cakes with Christina Tosi at the Momofuku Milkbar HQ and generally just loved pretending that we were New Yorkers in our perfectly positioned apartment. Oh and attending an NFL game was pretty rediculous - at one time trying to hide the fact I was crying with laughter listening to a father and son from Jersey heckle each other and then hiding tears of happiness when a Soldier was reunited with his family on the field who thought he was coming home from service in a year.
Oh and I got the op shopping deal of my life in Bushwick after a dumpling mission in Queens.
Our next mission was to pick up a rental car on the edge of the city and drive - yes I said drive - upstate and as far as Montreal.

Sweet Home Chicago

The day Queso Fresca saved my life at Big Star Tacos.
Sunshiney day at the bean

I freaked out and asked for pickled carrots on my grilled cheese. Worked out pretty delicious in the end.

Fuck Buttons at Subterranean. The night I thought my hearing had finally gone.

Me and my yellow backpack enjoying Chi Town art.

Within less than 12 hours of being in Chicago I had my first real travel mishap. I lost my phone. I cried. Several times. I didn't have much connection to the actual phone, just all of the glorious things that I had stored on it, which I might add, was not backed up as I had disabled icloud AND find my iphone to save battery life. Really Appelsin? top work. So here are some photos I stole from my boyfriend's phone.
Chicago really is about 100 times cooler than I first thought it would be. Kinda like a mini and slightly quieter New York city.  We ate the cliched deep dish pizza, I had my first experience with Malt Liquor, we met some very lovely people who took us home to their fire pit and had our second encounter with Mr John C Reilly. Some hiccups happened in Chicago, but we picked ourselves up, brushed ourselves off and drank another beer. Again, having an excellent Airbnb pad and host really can make your stay in a city just that much better.
Wicker Park is where its at Y'all.

Pacific North Best - on the train to Portland

I wonder if people in Portland realise how trying beautiful their neighbourhoods are? I bet they ruddy do.

Hola Olympic Provisions!

One of the many strip clubs, this one is where Courtney Love became famous

Laurelthirst - many a great conversation was overheard about wood choices when making furniture here
I would love to show you some great shots I got on film while in Portland, especially of the incredible amount of neon signs in the city so aptly portrayed in Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen's Portlandia. I had a whoopsy with the camera and sadly lost a roll of film, so here are some shots I took with instagram.
I would highly recommend making the journey from Seattle to Portland on the Amtrak trains - there is such incredible scenery in betweena nd you wind up right in the centre of Portland, and it was only $50 for the 2 of us.
In short, when in Portland - Drink Rogue beer, sing karaoke at Alibi, get an 'old dirty bastard' at Voodoo Doughnut, buy a book at powells, embrace the beards, spend as much time as you can strolling the neighbourhoods before your heart breaks and you have to leave.

Here's one shot that survived

Pacific North Best

waking up in Capitol Hill, Seattle

hot apple cider and grilled cheese sandwiches on the Puget Sound

the gum covered walls of Post Alley

Bainbridge Island charm

We landed in Seattle a day into the US Government shutdown, not knowing how this would effect our travel plans. If anything, we got through customs within 15 minutes and despite a minor luggage mishap, things were looking good. Our Capitol Hill Airbnb apartment turned out to be just as sweet as the pictures, there was pumpkin flavoured everything in the supermarket, and it was only October 3rd. God Bless America.
